River
Temporary Installation

River
Overall View with Projection

Location: Cambridge Arts Council Gallery, Cambridge MA, 2004
Foster Gallery, Noble and Greenough School, Dedham, MA, 2007
Size:30' x 8' x 10'
Fabrication:Jesse Kaminsky
Materials:Light. water, plexiglass, ladder, motor, clamps, tubing, vinyl floor screen
The main part of the installation is the moving light and shadow river projected onto the floor. A series of transparent trays are suspended from a ladder and water is pumped to the high end and is allowed to cascade down through the low end into a translucent bucket. A small submersible pump in the bucket pumps the water through translucent pvc tubing back up to the top. Carefully aimed and calibrated lights suspended above the water cast the river image onto the floor.

The River seems like an apparition, although all the standard hardware that creates this illusion is plainly visible above.
