We are creating two giant figures at the entrances of the Path and hedge lantern elements along the approaches to guide the pedestrian into the pathway. The figures use the topiary vocabulary of the espaliered ficus plantings that already exist at the site.

At the city end is Looking Man, a 37 ft. figure, who peers through binoculars at the water.

At the water's end of the pathway is a Mermaid who is holding a megaphone with one hand and calling to the city. In the other hand she is holding a string that projects up the seven stories to a kite that brings the sun's prismatic light into the center of the cavernous path.

Plan of Hedge Lanterns

A series of Hedge/Lantern structures will lead pedestrians through the site providing formal sequence and night lighting, beginning at the critical points on Harbor Drive and at the Bay Front Promenade.Hedge Lanterns

Within the Canyon Path there are three spaces, each painted a different color: orange, yellow and pale green. The design of the pedestrian's walk is choreographed as a sequential experience: first to draw you in, then create a magical experience inside and, finally, open up to the waterfront.
