Harries/Héder were invited to the design team as urban designers and artists to enhance the public areas and improve the connections of the building with downtown. We recommended improvements in the transparency of the lobbies from the streets and the overall image of the building on the skyline.

We were commissioned as lead artists to create the 67,000 square feet of terrazzo flooring, and a block-long perforated stainless steel "Wave" entrance and ceiling sculpture over 3rd Street.

The terrazzo floor brings local geography and imagery into the building and extends these onto the sidewalks. Its design was based on the riverscape, fossil beds, City Grid and crossings that precipitated the founding of Louisville. It also serves to improve the flow and orientation of conventioneers inside the building. Metal work for the terrazzo was fabricated at Harries/Héder Studio and a team of Louisville artists are assisting in the construction of the floor.
