| The Gateway creates a memorable passage along the main hall of the K-8 school. By its exagerated scale it bridges between architecture and furniture. The child or parent experience the sculpture as they walk underneath, as would have Alice, at a different scale than expected.

| The table is fabricated from ash with authentic wood joinery and is painted with encrustations of different color paint, which is seen clearly from the underneath perspective. Enlarged bubblegums are stuck to the underside of the skirt of the table. Above the table is a collection of large crockery and books bathed in a pink light that creates a magical landscape. I expect over time this sculpture will be carved by the successive classes of students. The layering of different color paint will give the carvings and the table a special patina. |
