| This installation was based on childhood memories of the gardens of British terraced (row) houses. Each of these gardens establishes its own barriers, entrances, and celebrations; they are the formal frontispieces of modest dwellings. With their manicure and their clear directives, they are intimate rooms not to be used. They are as formally conceived as the grander gardens of stately homes. | |||||||||||||||||

| The site is chosen so that the garden can be seen from above as architectural elements. From the gardens, the vista is through the more naturalistic grounds of the museum.
